Sustaining the future

Launch 25th september 2010

Caer Alyn heritage project’s new youth project
– Harvesting the Past.

A young roots project funded by the Heritage Lottery fund that aims to develop skills and knowledge in young people so as to gain an understanding of how the technologies and skills used in the past can inform and contribute to the modern world.

Using hands-on activities, young people will design explore and examine a range of ancient practices from growing food to conducting experiments into the buildings of the past. The results of which will be available to the local communities of the region through displays at the wrexham museum, the Caer Alyn website, on line social networks, books and presentations to local community groups.

Phil Cox, the Caer Alyn project archaeologist says “ the Harvesting the Past project will provide young people with a range of skills that will include archaeological techniques, heritage awareness, information technology, communication, project management skills and developing museum based exhibitions. But most of all they will have fun and experience a sense of achievement that will be beneficial to them in future years.

To achieve the objectives of the project the young roots project will work closely with local partners, including Karen Teesdale, the Educational Officer at Wrexham Musuem, local community groups and local colleges”
